The value of the stone was still below what it is worth, according to the geological technical report.
The 137-kilogram stone with pieces of green emerald embedded in it was found in Mina Carnaíba, in Pindobaçu, a city in northern Bahia and auctioned on Tuesday (28) by the Federal Revenue Service.
Bid for R$175 million, the stone measuring 60 centimeters high, 20 centimeters wide and 20 centimeters deep, had a minimum bid value of R$115 million.
The auction took place in Campinas, in the interior of São Paulo, ending on Tuesday at 11:05.
The value of the stone was still below what it is worth, as shown in the geological technical report, based on an examination carried out on August 2, 2022.
According to the report, the pricing of the merchandise does not follow the methods of evaluating gemstones for the jewelry market and the piece has commercial value for collectors, museums and universities, “given its rarity and unique beauty”.
The document also compares the real value of the stone with similar cases: between US$30 million and US$50 million at auction, which would correspond to R$154 million to R$256 million, at the current price.
In the same region where the stone was found, in Mina da Carnaíba, other geological treasures have already been located and auctioned.
A stone weighing 280kg in 2001, valued at US$400, and another known as the “Esmeralda Bahia”, weighing 360kg in 2017, sold for US$300 million, according to information from the Federal Revenue Service.
